Neptune, Neptunia, or Nep-Nep (all the same person) is found lying in a ditch somewhere with amnesia after being yeeted from what can only be described as heaven. There is a big ol’ war known as the Console Wars (ha), and the physical manifestation of Sega, Neptune, gets dunked on and left for dead. Each nation is fashioned after a 7th generation games console, such as the Wii, PS3, or 360. The world of Gamindustri is split into four nations, each overseen by its own Goddess or CPU. Regardless of how many times this game gets thrown at fans and non-fans alike, let’s jump into Neptunia ReVerse and see what’s what.įirst things first, Neptunia is all tongue and cheek. Now, this isn’t the first time the game has come over to more modern hardware. The first Hyperdimension Neptunia game has been remade. Otherwise, while it’s an entirely competent title, you’re probably safe skipping this remaster. Here we are again – back where it all started. If you’ve somehow missed it all these years, it’s worth picking up Neptunia ReVerse. This setting and the associated characters are great, but at this point it’s probably best for Idea Factory to proceed with making new Neptunia games rather than retreading this one, as good as it is. Really, we’ve seen this game, what, three times now? Four? I’m happy to play Neptunia again but I would fully understand if other players aren’t.

That’s pretty cool if true! I’m not sure if it’s cool enough to merit buying the game again on PS5, but it’s cool. I’m pretty sure the puddles in the forest now have raytraced reflections. It’s running on the PS5, so it looks great! It sounds great! It runs like a dream! Honestly, if this weren’t the case I’d be a little concerned. Run around simple dungeons, smack enemies to start battles, move around in a defined move radius and attack while trying to maximize the number of baddies you catch in your areas of effect it’s everything we’ve come to know and love from Idea Factory games for the past half-decade or so.Īnd as for the presentation…it’s…it’s the first Neptunia game. Here, you’ve got gameplay and combat inspired by 2015’s Fairy Fencer F, which is still a bit crusty but still entirely playable.

Technically it’s the enhanced remake of the first Neptunia game, really, which is a good thing since the gameplay of the actual Hyperdimension Neptunia on PS3 is a little crusty these days. Otherwise, well, it’s Neptunia Re Birth 1, maps, plot, combat and all. There’s also fishing, so if you’re into that, well, you’ve got fishing. Whomp whomp.Įven with those omissions, this is a massive, overwhelming number of characters so this mode is really meant for people who have played this game before and don’t mind the combat balance being thrown all out of whack. You and Me from Virtual Stars also don’t show up. Now it’s on PS5, so it looks and runs especially well, much like it did back on PC! It’s also got some extras, like the Arrange Mode that allows you to have pretty much every original character from previous games show up again in playable form! Sadly, “original character” means no Sega Hard Girls. ReVerse is, well…the first Neptunia game yet again. Mysteriously, the seemingly-normal girl Neptune wakes up with amnesia some time later…and it should come as no surprise that she’ll be central to all this, including dealing with the villainous Arfoire and her plans for Gamindustri. Eventually, though, the balance is broken as three of the goddesses team up on Purple Heart, the Sega representative.

This has led to a tense balance as they all battle over Shares, the force that powers Gamindustri. In the world of Gamindustri, everything is run by the four CPUs – the Console Patron Units, goddesses who represent the four great game console companies. Idea Factory’s gotten a lot of mileage out of remasters and they’re here to do it again with Neptunia ReVerse, yet another remaster of the remake of the first Hyperdimension Neptunia game. Remasters are the algae of the video game world: maybe not the most exciting stuff, but they keep the publisher-beasts fed and ensure everything runs smoothly. That’s no surprise – players get to check out their classics in, presumably, new and improved formats, while publishers get to slam the same game out the door again and make a little more change out of the deal. Remasters are popular with publishers and players alike.
